Well, the first strategy is always prevention sometimes a sunburn can happen unexpectedly. I got a little carried away gardening yesterday and when I came inside the house my shoulders were completely burned!
Plantain has been used for centuries to soothe sunburned skin. You can make a simple infusion (tea) by adding about a handful of fresh leaves to one cup of boiling water, steep for 15 minutes, strain, and cool. Pour the infusion into a spray bottle and spray the tea onto the sunburned skin.
Comfrey is also a great plant to reduce inflammation and speed up the healing process. I like to apply this plant in the form of a salve.
Calendula is my all-purpose plant that decreases inflammation, speeds healing, and has anti-microbial effects. This plant can be used topically in a cream, salve, or infusion.
